Individually we are from the top…starting way down at the low end where heaven meets hell you’ll find…Mr Silas Maitland (Geno Washington, Seal) on bass guitar. Meanwhile, standing somewhere out front, screaming down a microphone with one hand thumping a dobro like a man enjoying his last day of freedom you have…Mr Julian Burdock (Beverley Knight, Peewee Ellis, Fred Wesley). Looming up the rear in a black hat and zoot suit with face contorted in a constant expression of sheer exquisite agony ...lady's and gentlemen Mr Moz Gamble on greasy b3 Hammond Organ Marcus Malone Band). Last but not least ...sitting at the back with black tie and five o'clock in the morning stubble you’re gonna find the no thrills raw and funky feel of one Michael Connolly on drums. All four of us share a passion for Blues and Soul, Funk, Hip Hop not to mention the rhythms of New Orleans, rock and roll and jazz!
Back in 2007 we put this project together out of a simple desire to create a band that played the sort of music we liked to play and wanted to hear! We also wanted to play original material so we knuckled down and wrote 12 songs, recorded them over a couple of days and featured them on our first CD called The Boogie Worm which came out last year! This was the vehicle we needed to get us on the road and into some of the key venues like Ain’t Nothing But The Blues, The Famous Monday Blues At The Bulingdon, The Malt Shoval, Round Midnight, The Blues Kitchen, The Oval Tavern, Colne Blues Festival to name a but a few!!
Since then we have been working hard on our 2nd CD called Neckbones and Gumbo. Our Style is a brand of raw and rootsy blues mixed with the sound of deep fried southern soul funk, blending Old Skool energy and down home grooves reminiscent of bands like The Meters and Ray Charles plus the funk of Freddie King while mixing in a little Fun Loving Criminals with influences from Beck and G Love and The Special Sauce chucked in for good measure!
