Laurie Holloway Trio with Guest Tina May
Show Time 8:00pm / Doors Open 7:00pm
Laurie Holloway started to play the piano at the tender age of 4, tuition began at 7 and by 11 he had been passed on, by his tutor, to more formal lessons. At 13 Laurie was organist and choirmaster of his local church and at 16 he was on the road as a fully fledged professional musician and was most recently the Musical Director for ‘The Michael Parkinson Show’, the highly successful “Strictly Come Dancing” Television Series and ‘The Dame Edna Treatment’.
He had a long association with the late Stephane Grappelli including 39 radio broadcasts, albums, and public performances. Gerry Mulligan, Clark Terry, Bob Brookmeyer, John Dankworth, JJ Johnson and, good friend, composer Johnny Mercer are among the many notable jazz musicians with whom Laurie has been associated. He has been Musical Director for Bob Monkhouse, Ronnie Corbett, Rolf Harris, Bruce Forsyth, Dame Edna Everage and Lily Savage among numerous other notable Light Entertainment figures.
Tina May has been very busy touring on the international jazz circuit. Appearances have been included festivals in France, Italy, Germany and in particular a return to her 'roots' starring in the title role of 'Liza Elliot' in the 'Lady In the Dark' a musical play by Moss Hart with music by Kurt Weill, lyrics by Ira Gershwin - a co-production with the Opera de Lyon and Theatre de la Renaissance. The 'Lady in the Dark' was nominated for a prestigious Moliere award in the 'best musical' category in 2009. Tina was described as 'simply fabulous' in the role. Tina describes this experience as 'a dream come true!'
This is a long-awaited album of Tina May singing with her quartet featuring Nikki Iles on piano, Phil Donkin on double bass, Stephen Keogh on drums and guesting on tenor sax Karen Sharp. Since her last release 'Wing and a prayer'
